Wentling Announces $500,000 to Support Affordable Housing in Sharpsville

Mar. 08, 2024

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced that the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) awarded the Borough of Sharpsville $500,000 for existing owner-occupied housing in partnership with the Lawrence County Community Action Partnership. The funding is through the HOME Investment Partnership Program, which provides municipalities with grant and loan assistance to expand and preserve affordable housing.

"With housing availability decreasing and housing prices rising throughout the country, this funding will help folks find quality housing at a more economic price here at home," said Rep. Parke Wentling.

The HOME program funds can be utilized in various ways to tackle critical housing needs, including market-oriented approaches that offer opportunities such as home ownership or rental activities to revitalize communities with new investment. The DCED receives HOME program funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the annual appropriation process.

This initiative aims to address the pressing issue of affordable housing in Sharpsville and provide residents with more accessible housing options in the face of rising prices nationwide.
